“I USE JEWELLERY AS MY LANGUAGE AND SPEAK THROUGH MY HANDS. MY EYES HEAR MY THOUGHTS AND TRANSLATE.”
As I sit at my jewellery bench here contemplating what to write for my first Handshake blog my mind keeps drifting to other places of creativity, imagination and curiosity.
Jasmin Matzakow was chosen by Ruudt Peters for me as my mentor and I eagerly anticipate our first meeting. I wonder what these next 2 years of working together will bring. Something wonderful and with much learning and artistic development no doubt. I have been told I am ambitious and whether this works in or against my favour I am still uncertain…….. But hey
Carpe Diem! Thoughts drift again……. Will me and Jasmin meet?… If so when?… How tall is she?… What does her workshop look like?… What is her art process?… Does she like cats?… Or is she more
a dog person?
I am curious about her research and study. Jasmin M entered the Philosophies Course at KTH led by Hēlēne Frichet and Daniel Koch, hoping to test drive an artistic PHD.
How does one make a PHD in jewellery?
“I wished to learn more about ways of making implicit actions in art jewellery field
explicit not only through objects but also through verbal language”
I am nervous and excited all at the same time.
Discussions, debates and conversations around jewellery, adornment, culture and ritual that is then slightly peppered with making techniques, materials and placement.
I think about Jasmin’s exhibition Body X Necklace X Base Unit, the concepts and underlying philosophy within this show. I feel as if they resonate with me, if somehow the work was created for a part of my story? Is this a silly thought? Maybe it is but never the less it would still make a great starting point in conversation or ideas for our collaboration in this mentee/mentorship.
And so the journey begins……..
