the day after the opening we were lucky to have a very engaging and enjoyable crit session of our show with American artist/ jeweler Lauren Kalman who works largely with concepts of jewelry and its relationship with the body.

I came away with some good feedback, Lauren commented that the work read as mysterious tools and was poetic and wondered about the hierarchy of symbols in my work I am still mulling over info and some chewy questions I am asking myself…around the obligation of the artist how clear do I need to be?? is it ok to work intuitively without explanation? does contemporary jewelry need to be conceptual? still thinking…

we made a trip out to see the wonderful exhibit at the Dowse: the language of things, curator Sian van Dyk gave us the tour ..a highlight for me

In Gabby’s Masterclass, we embarked on a series of quick making exercises designed to loosen us up and approach making in a new way, working with low tech materials such as card and plasticine great for initiating new work and extending practice and suited to the material based way I am working…

In keeping with the low-tech vibe of the week, we learned some very helpful photography hacks which I hope to put to good use in our upcoming online exhibition! finishing off exercises were creating mini-exhibits of our mockups and super fun time trial curation.
